Thanks to the awesome team at Channels- The Australian Video Art Festival for interviewing me to catch up on everything I've been up to since their 2013 festival (which included my work Untitled #8).
The interview is online here.

Photo: Untitled (home) #2 (2015).
My image Untitled (home) #2 was selected as a finalist in the 2015 Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award. From the website : The Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award is one of the most important annual surveys of contemporary Australian photographic practice. I am so pleased and grateful to be included and encourage all in town to pop in to the Gold Coast City Gallery and see the current trends and breadth of contemporary photography in Australia. In January 2015 I was invited to participate in the 10th International Art Workshop at the Poh-Chang Academy of Arts, Bangkok. The workshop featured approx. 50 artists from around the world, plus an additional 150 or so thai artists. The workshop and its concluding exhibition ran for only five days- and with formalities (including national flags etc, opening event) the actual studio time was closer to 2 and 1/2 days. I took some new work with me on the trip as a back up but lo and behold, a new series! I had a wonderful time and big thanks to Aaron Martin and Pimpisa Tinpalit who facilitated my participation in the workshop, and of course to the many fabulous staff and students at Poh-Chang who assisted me during my time there.
Last December 2014 I was part of a conference organised by the Luce Irigaray Circle entitled 'Topologies of Sexual Difference,' hosted by RMIT and the University of Melbourne. The conference included an exhibition of the same title held at George Paton Gallery, where I exhibited two photographs of my Untitled (refrain) series. I also performed at the closing celebration of the gallery, which also included a performance by Bon Mott. Big thanks to Caroline Phillips for her work in curating and organising the exhibition.
It almost seems like another world away- and in a way it was, look at all 2014 has swept over us so far- but here is a fantastic snapshot of my little project from February this year. Filmed and edited by Andrew Ferguson from Ferguson Films, the video shows the seven films exhibited in Melbourne's laneways and various sites as part of my Masters of Fine Art at Monash University. Big thanks to all who assisted, attended the exhibition, and showed their support.

'Vertigo' opens at POSCO art museum, Seoul, for the final stop on its Asian tour. If you are in South Korea, please stop by to view the four video works I am showing as part of this wonderful exhibition curated by Claire Anna Watson and presented by BLINDSIDE ARI and Asialink. I forgot to tell you about the opening of 'Seventh Skin'- a wonderful exhibition curated by Claire Anna Watson at Hatch Contemporary Arts Space as part of the City of Banyule's Art and Cultural programs. The opening was last night and featured a gorgeous opening speech by Assoc Professor Robert Nelson ruminating on the various layers of skin- our own, the skin of our landscape and site, and including some pointed commentary on current urban planning trends in his usual entertaining and lucid manner.
Kudos to Claire for an innovative program that includes artist-in-residence John Gosper who is making some beautiful wearable textiles (am hoping to have a play in them soon), a fun dress-up opportunity in Poli Papapetrou's witty photo booth, and an education kit featuring questions for young children on the works. I love the activity accompanying my video Untitled (refrain) (2013)- 'Have you ever done something in secret that was fun? What was it? Create a drawing of the event and share with a friend.' The exhibiton runs until the 2 August. Thanks to Catherine Connolly and Carmen Reid at Counihan Gallery for thinking of my work when compiling this program of winter screenings as part of an exhibition looking at Air. Its a great curatorial premise, and I'm so glad to be a part of it with Untitled #1 (2010) - aka the pillow video. Please come along to the opening on Thursday 19 June from 6pm if you can make it.
In other wintry goings-on, I am heading down to Hobart for Dark Mofo this weekend. (sadly not as a trashbag this time) Aside from the fabulous art and bacchanalian pursuits, we are going to do some suitably Dark Mofo side-activities such as exploring caves and visiting hot springs. Should be fun. |
